acne bumps after hair transplant surgery : Noticing acne bumps  after hair transplant procedure  is a very common occurrence among patients. However they are not the same as acne pimples.  With acne, there are obstructions in the skin pores which result in an accumulation of oil deposits beneath the skin. The post operation bumps of hair transplant patients results from the inflammation of the hair follicle (folliculitis). This can occur due to:

  1. formation of ingrown hairs
  2. irritation beneath the skin surface as a result of the emerging hair shaft
  3. in FUE hair transplant the extraction sites can erupt in acne when hair damaged during the extraction process become ingrown as they try to regrow

Normally, these cane bumps will manifest in the recipient or grafted sites around the third month when the newly inserted follicles are just starting to sprout hair. While they can resolve on their own, it would be best to consult your doctor who might recommend any one of the following treatment options depending on your specific situation:

  • Observation
  • Popping professionally
  • Topical treatments
  • Oral antibiotics
  • Avoidance of occlusive greasy creams
