Q. Is an individual too young for a hair restoration surgery if they are in their late teens to early twenties?
A: In general, hair transplant surgeries are not recommended for younger patients.  But an actual decision of hair restoration for younger candidates would truly vary on a case by case basis.

It is quite understandable that an individual’s social life and their career preparations are most active during this period of time. And they would naturally want to look their very best to enjoy these years instead of waiting for a later point in their lives.

However, there are certain considerations that patients need to be aware of before making plans for a hair transplant procedure.

Younger patients are usually still in the process of losing their hair at a rapid rate.  After their surgery, it is likely that obvious areas of hair loss (e.g. bald patches) may become apparent.  And this will require additional procedures.

A doctor would really need to anticipate whether or not the individual is likely to become severely bald or if their hair loss has reached a stable point.

Also,  proper planning of financial resources would therefore be an important variable when deciding on choosing the option of hair restoration for younger candidates, especially with the possible risk of needing additional surgery.
