your choice of an FUE Surgeon
Choosing an FUE Surgeon
Choosing an FUE Surgeon : Follicular unit extraction, or FUE, is an advanced method of hair transplantation. It has risen to the top amongst competing techniques—such as strip surgery—due in large part to satisfactory outcomes. More specifically, the reasons FUE trumps other types of hair transplantation are:

  • FUE hair transplant leaves no linear scar
  • The microsurgical nature of FUE means any scarring is cosmetically negligible
  • FUE hair transplant produces softer, more natural-looking hairlines
  • FUE allows for the choosing of specific donor follicles, such as finer hairs from the nape of the neck by advanced UGraft FUE, when needed
  • FUE hair transplant is minimally invasive, thus recovery time is quick
  • Advanced UGraft FUE broadens the donor pool through body hair transplantation, or BHT
  • FUE using BHT by UGraft makes the most unlikely hair transplant candidates able to undergo successful hair transplantation

What Should I Look For In Choosing An FUE Surgeon?

Having the right FUE surgeon to perform your hair transplantation is important. The success of an FUE hair transplantation is influenced greatly by the integrity of the grafts extracted—thus by the FUE surgeon extracting them. You should have a one on one consultation with your physician before the date of surgery for any necessary tests, to discuss the look you desire, and to make sure your expectations meet the extent of his skills and services. For instance, a specific hairline design would be discussed at this time. You would also review, in advance, before and after photographs of his previous work in FUE. Your FUE surgeon should make you feel comfortable, safe, and confident in his practice.

Other things to take into consideration when looking for an FUE surgeon:

  • Your FUE surgeon should have proper licensing and certifications. You should also be aware of who will be performing what role during your hair transplant and what that person’s qualifications are.
  • Unlike strip surgery, each graft extraction done in an FUE hair transplant is considered a surgical performance. Therefore, in most parts of the United States, it is illegal for unlicensed personnel to perform this surgery. Beware of FUE surgeons who, in an effort to expedite the process and turn FUE into an assembly line, resort to using unlicensed personnel to perform graft extractions.
  • Another mass production concept employs powered FUE devices to extract donor follicles. These machines, like Artas and NeoGraft  are intended to be efficient and technically precise. However, there are many details and nuances in hair transplant surgeries which are better addressed by an experienced physician. This is needed to help optimize both the survival of the hair grafts and the quality of the end result.Although hand held tools do not seem as sophisticated, they allow the doctor’s expertise and vision to account for important details and  lead the vision of the procedure.
  • There is a steep learning curve with advanced FUE hair transplantation. Thus, extractions should be performed by skilled and experienced FUE surgeons. Prospective patients should be aware if they are under the care of someone less experienced.
