Each graft needs to be individually selected and excised as opposed to removing a single strip of tissue from the back or sides of the head which is then dissected to remove the follicular units.
Cost of UGraft FUE
The law only permits excisions to be performed by physicians. In a strip surgery, the surgeon removes a long tissue from the patient’s scalp. Technicians are allowed to remove the individual grafts from the excised strip. However, every punch performed through FUE is considered an excision. Therefore, the extraction of donor follicles can only be performed by the doctor instead of being a team effort. This contributes to a longer surgical time frame.
Strip surgery can usually be done in 5-6 hours. Follicular Unit Extraction usually requires more time. And in cases that require more than 2,000 grafts (up to 25,000 when body hair is used) the procedure is divided into several sessions.
However, for many patients, the (conventional and Advanced) justify the overall cost of Ugraft FUE. No linear scar is created. And a greater number of grafts can be harvested for better coverage with FUE.
