The industry leading publication is recognized for discussing important issues related to the mainstream entertainment world. And of course, one of these includes the desire of many celebrities to look forever young. For men, this often means having a full head of hair and the most natural looking hairline possible.

How Hairlines Shape Your Appearance

When we see a receding hairline, our brains immediately associate this with age. But also, we perceive this appearance as being less attractive.  Although this tendency can be judged as being superficial, there is actually a mathematical reason which explains this inherent and universal reaction. It is known as the Rule of Thirds.

Doctors who perform cosmetic procedures need to rely on aesthetic proportions to help their patients look their absolute best. These are the same conventions that visual artists (like Michaelangelo) use as they create renditions of the ideal human form.

According to the Rule of Thirds, an attractive face is divided into three equal sections. This is defined by the: distance from the hairline edge to the eyebrows, the eyebrows to the base of the nose, the nose to the chin.

The only variable feature  is the hairline. So when it recedes, the proportion of thirds is skewed.

Leg Hair And Hairline Restoration

Patient’s hairline restoration was achieved through the use of leg hair grafts to create a natural looking, soft edge*

The position of the hairline on the forehead is not the only important consideration. Another variable that other people will easily notice is how natural the edge looks. Although the average person is not an expert on the intricacies of hair transplants, they can instinctively recognize the difference between a contrived hairline and one that looks more realistic, although they may not be consciously aware of the reasons why.

In conventional forms of hair restoration, follicle grafts are harvested from the main areas of the head. These shafts are rather thick. And when used in the face framing areas, the effect is rather harsh as opposed to soft and gradual.

This is why thinner follicles are best for the hairline. Yet extracting them is a challenge for a few reasons:

(1)  The follicles tend to grow outside the normal head donor regions at sharp angles. This makes them susceptible to damage with typical FUE punches which are better suited for growth angles that are closer to ninety degrees.

(2) Desired follicles for the hairline tend to be located on areas of the body that are more visible and exposed. Therefore there are higher expectations for visually pristine wound healing results on areas like the leg and nape.

If the patient has enough leg hair of an ideal thickness, this will be selected over nape hair since it is much softer.

Doctor Umar is able to create exceptionally natural looking hairlines by using his uGraft tools and accompanying techniques to harvest these hairs and overcome the challenges of extracting non conventional donor follicles.
