Hair Transplant Recovery – The invasiveness of the procedure is key.
The invasiveness depend on the type of the hair transplant method used. It is either a follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). The less the skin is disturbed during hair transplant, the better your wounds and faster your recovery.
- Follicular Unit Extraction involves moving individual units of follicle hair one at a time from either your head and if by UGraft advanced FUE; your body to the restoration area, the wounds created are miniscule. Tiny incisions are made in the target areas, so tiny that they are invisible once healed. Best of all, healing begins within hours of surgery.
- Follicular Unit Strip Surgery on the other hand involves removing a slab of flesh and closure which leads to the rearrangement of the entire anatomical landscape of the scalp not to mention the severing of nerves in the process. The large linear wound would take a longer time to heal and often it is heralded by a prolonged period of pain and itchiness. Cut nerves could lead to a life time of pain and/or numbness and/or abnormal sensations called parasthesias.
Both FUE and FUSS could have similar recipient area recovery course depending on the technique of slit preparation used. Both would entail a 1-2 week period of scabbing, a variable period of redness. Ingrown hair or folliculitis formation may herald the onset of growth typically at the 4month mark
